Because the tape is thin (typically 0.2 mm to 0.5 mm), it provides virtually no tensile strength. However, the overlapping structure offers absolute perimeter coverage, preventing sharp rocks, construction tools, or burrowing rodents from piercing the XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene) or PVC insulation layers during direct ground burial.
